FAIR

Fair modular furniture set

2nd Prize Sustainable Furniture Design Contest by Ecor & Stora Enso

Design Jukka Jokinen & Heikki Konu

Fair is a modular set of stools, benches and sidetables. It represents modern Scandinavian style with clear design language. The furniture are easy to produce and have stabile and safe structure, so it suits well to a trade fair exhibition. The clever modular structure of Fair enables efficient logistics when the furniture fits inside each other. The furniture is made of new sustainable material Ecor Ply and the material can honestly be seen in the furniture as it is.

“Your design demonstrated a strong understanding of our material, along with a thoughtful approach to sustainable, long-term design. It strikes a clean balance between modern aesthetics and Scandinavian minimalism by being refined, purposeful, and well-crafted.”

DESIGN PROCESS

Starting point

A sustainability-focused competition invited designers to create innovative, circular furniture concepts using ECOR panels with NeoLigno — emphasizing minimal waste, modern aesthetics, functionality, and ergonomics.

ECOR Global is transforming the board industry with a revolutionary fiberboard made entirely from agricultural waste and bonded with NeoLigno® – Stora Enso’s bio-based, formaldehyde-free adhesive. This innovation significantly reduces the product’s CO2 footprint compared to traditional materials setting a new standard for sustainable materials.

Sketching

The sketching is usually done by hand and is based on creative thinking and ideation. We like to consider many options and make a lot of drawings first and then narrow down the options to find the best idea concept.

3D modeling

We have excellent knowledge of the use of modeling programs and product drawings are created with the help of editable 3D models. In 3D modeling, the shapes and exact details of products, different components and materials can be precisely defined.

3D printing

We use our own 3D printer to create models of product concepts. This benefits the design work and can be used to show how the dimensions and other features of the product actually look like.

Image rendering

Before a product really exists, we can create rendered images by 3D modeling and rendering the product concept. This way the customer can see how the finished product would look before the first prototype is created.

Awarded design

Fair received 2nd prize in the Ecor and Stora Enso international design contest. According to the Jury the design demonstrated a strong understanding of the Ecor material, along with a thoughtful approach to sustainable, long-term design. There’s a clean balance between modern aesthetics and Scandinavian minimalism and the design is said to be refined, purposeful, and well-crafted.
