ARCHIPELAGO candle holders & serving dish
Design Jukka Jokinen & Heikki Konu
ARCHIPELAGO is a series of objects made of sustainable Lunawood ThermoWood which the company can give as a business gift to its customers. These handmade candle holders and serving dishes bring a touch of Nordic forest to your home. The design draws inspiration from the beautiful simplicity of the Finnish archipelago – a landscape characterized by round rocks and ever-changing sea.
The serving dish is a multipurpose product. When it is turned over, it can also be used as a cutting board.
“Both products turned out to be brilliant and these new business gifts support our brand story. The vivid pattern and soft surface of the Lunawood Thermowood is perfectly expressed in the round shapes of the products.”
Suvi Loukeinen, Marketing Manager Lunawood Oy
DESIGN PROCESS & PRODUCTION
The design draws inspiration from the beautiful simplicity of the Finnish archipelago – a landscape characterized by round rocks and ever-changing sea.
The sketching is usually done by hand and is based on creative thinking and ideation. We like to consider many options and make a lot of drawings first and then narrow down the options to find the best idea concept.
3D modeling & printing
In 3D modeling, the shapes and exact details of the product can be precisely defined with the help of editable 3D models. We use our own 3D printer to create models of product concepts, which can be used to show how the different features of the product actually look and feel like.
Before a product really exists, we can create rendered images by 3D modeling and rendering the product concept. This way the customer can see how the finished product would look before the first prototype is created.
We wanted to highlight the beauty of the Lunawood ThermoWood material: the grain patterns of the wood and the smooth round surface invite you to touch the object. The table surface on which it is placed becomes part of the design. Products are handmade in Finland.
